DESCRIPTION:A ceremonial groundbreaking will be held Thursday\, June 28\, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the site of a future home of Reach for Your Potential clients. \nThe home is being built at 1881 Dickenson Lane in Iowa City by local students. \nThe groundbreaking is the beginning of a new project put on by our Vocational Training Council. The council organizes workforce development projects in the greater Iowa City area. Students participating in the program learn an important skill set\, earn college credit\, and help give back to the community.  \nWe are excited to have Governor Kim Reynolds at the groundbreaking and would love to show off this remarkable vocational training program to you as well. \nThe project includes 13 students of all different ages building a home for a local non-profit organization called Reach for Your Potential. RFYP supplies housing for adults with disabilities. This project also partners with Kirkwood Community College\, allowing each student working on the house to receive two hours of construction credits.  Members of the Homebuilders Assn. pay for the college credits\, and students will also complete their 10 hours of OSHA certification.  \nWe are inviting the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce\, members of the Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association\, members of the Vocational Training Council\, all of the students and their parents working on the project\, and local legislators. \nDetails can be found below: \nStudent Built House Project Groundbreaking\n1881 Dickenson Lane\nIowa City\, IA  \n**Turn East on Dickenson Lane and go to the end of the road**\nThursday\, June 28\n3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:There is an increasing desire among today’s home owners to live in one’s home as long as possible which has created a strong demand for products and services serving this audience. \nTo help home owners make their home a safe and comfortable living environment for the long term\, many responsive and innovative products are emerging. Likewise\, service providers are answering this demand by focusing their businesses on creating new homes and renovations that provide design flexibility\, pleasing aesthetics\, high function and usability for all people\, without regard to age\, income or ability level\, and regardless of life’s changes and challenges. The goal of this course is to enable participants to identify common challenges within the home and understand attractive design concepts that create a safe and comfortable environment for clients who want to age in place as well as identify with one or more of these groups: Individuals who are not experiencing health issues related to aging\, individuals who have a progressive or other condition that requires home modifications or equipment\, and individuals who are dealing with an abrupt or traumatic health-related change. \nBy completing this course\, participants will be able to: \n•Identify special considerations for estimating\, scheduling and executing the job while the client is in residence. \n•Identify legal and contractual considerations for building professionals providing AIP design solutions for residential clients. \n•Describe the categories of design and how they relate and apply to the three AIP market segments. \n•Describe specific design concepts for the AIP client.
