DESCRIPTION:Durant High School\, whose NAHB Student Chapter is sponsored by the Iowa City Area HBA\, received word in May that it is receiving a 2021 Schools to Skills Grant for $13\,000! Join us during the football scrimmage to hear about the HBI Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) program and see the great things the school has been doing to train youth for the skilled-trades industry. \nGrant money is from the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and the Home Depot Foundation; the National Housing Endowment and additional funders. Durant will use it for PACT licensing\, instructor training and student assessment fees for two years. PACT is a licensed program that teaches the building trades. The award-winning curriculum\, based on NAHB’s Green Building Standard™ and National Skills Standards\, is one of only three pre-apprenticeship curricula recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL) deployed in youth training programs nationwide. DESCRIPTION:Long-time Greater Iowa City Area HBA member Jane Hagedorn\, retired from Bea Day Plumbing\, is the 2021 Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity (IVHFH) Women Build honoree! \nJoin us for the project’s groundbreaking. The event is outdoors\, but those attending in person are encouraged to wear face masks and practice social distancing.  \nJane was highly involved in all 11 previous IVHFH Women Build homes. Women Build is a program developed by Habitat for Humanity to engage and empower women in construction. The goal is not meant to exclude men\, but to include women who may not feel comfortable volunteering at a male-dominated construction site. Women Build also highlights and honors the talented and hard-working women in our community.  \nCome congratulate Jane and witness another IVHFH home starting for a deserving family.
