Join us during the football scrimmage to hear about the HBI Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) program and see the great things the school has been doing to train youth for the skilled-trades industry. \nGrant money is from the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and the Home Depot Foundation; the National Housing Endowment and additional funders. Durant will use it for PACT licensing\, instructor training and student assessment fees for two years. PACT is a licensed program that teaches the building trades. The award-winning curriculum\, based on NAHB’s Green Building Standard™ and National Skills Standards\, is one of only three pre-apprenticeship curricula recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL) deployed in youth training programs nationwide. Jessica earned a Masters of Public Policy from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and Bachelors in Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara. \nNatalie Lehman\, Senior Research Analyst\, Cause IMPACTS\nNatalie is a strategic planner\, detailed researcher\, skilled group facilitator\, program developer and statistical analyst at Cause IMPACTS. Her work has focused on increasing regional economic development through workforce programs and cross-collaboration across sectors. Natalie’s perspective on building sustainable\, equitable\, and thriving communities is driven through leadership development\, improving policies\, and increasing advocacy efforts within the private\, public\, and non-profit sectors. With degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Kansas (KU) in art and architectural history\, and a professional Master of Architecture from KU\, she has worked in a diverse set of related occupations\, including freelance work that extends from architecture to graphic design\, historic research and building assessment. Jessica lives in Iowa City with her daughter\, Geneva\, and incorporates sustainability and education in her advocacy\, trying to bring the preservation bug to the next generation. \n  \nAbout Iowa City Historic Preservation\nThe Neighborhood and Development Services Department includes offices for Housing Inspections and Urban Planning – which assists in identifying and preserving historically significant landmarks and districts. The Historic Preservation Commission\, with the assistance of the preservation planner\, reviews requests for exterior changes to properties located within the city’s historic districts\, conservation districts and historic landmarks. Historic preservation helps to ensure that any proposed change is compatible with the historic character of the building and neighborhood. \n
