  • Celebrating Professional Women in Building Week

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Professional Women in Building Week, Sept. 13-17, highlights the diverse, talented women in the home-building industry.

Not only are women employed in all aspects of residential construction, but they’re also reaping the industry’s compensation benefits. In general, a pay gap exists between men and women across most industries in the United States, where women earn 82 cents for every dollar a man makes. However, the gap is much smaller in the construction industry, as females take home 97 cents for every dollar a man is paid.

Climbing the ladder in any industry can be a challenge without a strong network of support. The Iowa City Area HBA’s Women’s Council, chaired by Brogan Messer of Kitchens By Design, offers networking, philanthropy through its scholarship program fundraising and more. Plus, NAHB offers access to professional development resources, forums that hone leadership skills and national recognition within the largest network of residential construction industry professionals.

A career in the trades brings a sense of satisfaction for all seeking opportunities to help fulfill the American Dream. Women are very much a part of that, and we celebrate them.
