Greater Iowa City Area HBA Representing in Orlando
The Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association was proud to have a strong presence at the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando this year. From national competition recognition to leadership discussions and educational sessions, it was a week that showcased the strength, talent, and engagement of our members.

Kirkwood Student Competition Team – 3rd Place Internationally

One of the biggest highlights of the week was cheering on the Kirkwood student competition team as they earned 3rd place on the international stage. Competing against top programs from across the country, these students demonstrated professionalism, technical skill, and poise that made our entire association proud.
Their accomplishment reflects not only their hard work, but also the dedication of the instructors, mentors, and industry partners who support workforce development right here in our community.
Education, Leadership & National Recognition
The International Builders’ Show (IBS) once again delivered top-tier educational programming and forward-thinking insight into the future of residential construction. From expert-led sessions and Leadership Council meetings to hands-on access to the latest products, materials, and innovations on the exhibit floor, IBS continues to shape the direction of our industry and equip leaders at every level.
We are especially proud to celebrate two major recognitions at this year’s show. The Kirkwood Student Chapter earned the SAFE Award, presented by Builders Mutual, for Student Chapter Safety Program of the Year after hosting the NAHB Fall Prevention Training class — a testament to their strong commitment to safety and workforce development. In addition, 2026 President Tim Ruth was recognized at the Leadership Council Meeting as a NAHB Life Delegate, honoring his long-standing service and dedication to the building industry.
Moments like these reflect the strength of our association — investing in education, championing safety, and developing leadership at every stage of the profession.
Area 10 Caucus & Leadership Engagement
We also participated in the Area 10 caucus and reception, collaborating with fellow leaders from across Area 10. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss legislative priorities, industry challenges, and advocacy efforts at the national level.

Iowa City HBA Members Showing Up Strong
We are incredibly grateful for the number of Greater Iowa City Area HBA members who made the trip to Orlando. Seeing our members invest in professional development, networking, and national engagement speaks volumes about the strength of our association.
Whether attending education sessions, supporting the student competition team, participating in leadership meetings, or connecting with fellow builders and associates, Iowa City was well represented throughout the week.
Suburban Lumber sponsored dinner for the Kirkwood Student Chapter Competition team and Iowa City Members in Orlando! Thank you, Suburban Lumber for supporting our students, investing in our members, and always showing up in a big way!
A Memorable Finish
We wrapped up the week with the Closing Concert followed by dinner generously covered by Sueppel’s Building & Remodeling for the Kirkwood team and our Iowa City HBA members, along with 2026 HBA Iowa President Brian Moss. It was a meaningful way to celebrate the students’ success, strengthen relationships, and reflect on an impactful week.
Moments like these highlight what makes our association special — collaboration, mentorship, leadership, and a shared commitment to advancing the building industry.
